Yokohama Beer Fest

The other weekend we had to work on Saturday and with no plans on Sunday, Jordan and I met up with a colleague from Pearl (who took a 3 year contract out here) and his coworker to go to Yokohama for a local beer festival. The location of this beer festival was in a convention center at the end of a pier. Probably the most architecturally artistic pier in the country. It's hard to describe and harder to get a picture of the whole thing but you can see some of the oddness just from this:

Japan isn't exactly known for there beer but some of the stuff here was pretty good. Some great food too!

At some point our old Hawaiian friend mentioned there was a place in Yokohama that sold malasadas -a super delicious Portuguese doughnut favorite of the islands. We were stoked to have one again so after we had our fill we wondered over to "Hawaiian Town" in the huge main mall of Yokohama. Hawaiian Town is an exact mini Hawaii. It was like we'd been transported some mall on Oahu. Gift shops full of typical trinkets, aloha shirts, even a shrimp truck! Everything looked so hawaiian it was a super crazy feeling.

We also went to the top floor of the mall to see a traditional japanese home from the 80s and now. Definitely a lot of technology upgrades and not as different from an American home as I expected, but Jordan is still too tall for even their modern home...

Yokohoma seems like a pretty nice city. I got the impression that is was very clean and modern. A lot of the buildings were white and the streets were so wide it was almost like a model. We'll be back for sure -especially when baseball season comes around! Oh and there is a small fair with a roller coaster that looks worth while ;)
